Periodontics

Periodontal surgery increases the chances of keeping natural teeth and preventing the tooth from extraction. It is a procedure for regenerating lost bone and tissue supporting the tooth.

Periodontal surgery is also helpful in cases of gum recession, wherein tooth may develop sensitivity due to exposed roots

Periodontics is the specialty of dentistry that studies supporting structures of teeth as well as diseases and conditions that affect them

Generally there is a bacterial activity within the mouth and if these unremoved shall form deposits ; which may add to further destruction leading to the formation of abscess, loosening of teeth and finally tooth extraction. Besides; even if bone loss occurs teeth may have to be extracted.

Benefits Of Periodontics:

It slows down gum disease and provide a good  oral health. Periodontal disease can be majorly classified in to : 1.gingivitis and 2. periodontitis.

1. Symptoms include red and swollen gums that bleed easily. Gingivitis can clear itself up if effective cleaning takes place.

2. It is more serious and   symptoms are similar to gingivitis in the first stages. It can damage to the bone that supports the teeth.

Periodontal treatment includes both surgical and non surgical treatment. Non surgical includes scaling and root planing.

  • Healthy gingiva (gum tissue), periodontal ligament and bone anchor teeth firmly in place.
  • Gingivitis develops as toxins, enzymes, and other plaque by-products irritate the gums, making them tender, swollen and likely to bleed easily.
  • Periodontitis occurs when plaque by-products destroy the tissues that anchor teeth in the bone. As the disease progresses, pockets form, which allow more plaque to collect below the gum line. Tooth roots are exposed and become susceptible to decay and sensitive to cold and touch.
